Bender comes into Fry’s room and finds him playing the holophoner. Fry says he is taking lessons so that he can win Leela’s heart. He tells Bender he has a recital on Tuesday and Bender agrees to attend. They turn up on Segways. At the recital, the kids outperform Fry who is pelted with random objects.
Back at the office, Fry moans to Bender about not being able to play music. Leela comes in and talks about her old boyfriend Sean who was uneducated and lazy but could play the sax. Leela leaves and Bender suggests to Fry he makes a deal with the robot devil. They head down to robot hell.
The robot devil offers to give Fry new robot hands but selecting a robot randomly from a giant wheel of robot names. Fry agrees and the robot devil spins the wheel (see the notes for a list of all the robots the pointer goes past). The pointer looks like it is going to stop on Bender but ticks over onto robot devil.
Reluctantly the robot devil switches his hands for Fry’s. Fry is excited until the hands start choking him. Back at Planet Express Fry arrives back with his new hands. He shows everyone a trick by disassembling Bender. The robot devil arrives and begs Fry for his hands back but Fry turns him down.
That night Fry plays the holophoner in his room and plays is well. He is soon playing it in front of his music teacher and then at Hovercar-Negie Hall. Next he has a two record set in the shops, Zoidberg phones up and orders eight. Meanwhile Hedonism bot arrives to see Fry and commissions him to write an opera. Fry agrees to do it about Leela.
That night Fry begins work, Leela overhears it and goes to see but Fry tells her he doesn’t want her to see it until it is finished. The robot devil continues to beg for his hands back. Next day, Bender opens the fridge and the robot devil pops out. He makes a deal with Bender swapping his ass plate for a stadium air horn.
Bender goes off to annoy people with the air horn – finding Leela he blows it in her face and deafens her. Leela is crushed that she won’t be able to hear the opera. Bender trys to blast the robot devil but runs out of aerosol. Next day the opera is about to start and Hedonism bot welcomes everyone.
The opera begins and Fry arrives on stage. The opera begins with scene 1 at the orphanerium. It goes into a musical number and Amy shows Leela some emotion flashcards to show her what she should be feeling. Cuts to Godzilla fighting Bender, Leela and Fry. Then to the intermission.
Leela is still distressed about not being able to hear it. The robot devil appears from out of the cloakroom and says he can give Leela new ears. She agrees in exchange for her left hand. The robot devil gives Leela Calculon’s ears and says he will take her hand later. Leela goes off to enjoy the opera.
The opera continues with Fry telling of how he got the hands and insults the robot devil by making his character slow and stupid. The robot devil arrives in stage and complains to Fry. They go into a musical argument and the robot devil says he will take Leela’s hand – in marrage.
The robot devil brings preacher bot onto the stage and says Fry has to give him his hands back or he will marry Leela and take her back to hell. Fry eventually gives him his hands back and says the opera is over. Zoidberg tells him the music was in his heart though and he continues.
Of course the truth is that it was in his hands and the opera sucks – everyone walks out. Fry is pelted with stuff as people leave. In the theatre Fry is sat alone. But Leela is still in the audience and asks him to keep playing. He picks up the holophoner again and shows himself and Leela walking off into the horizon. Fades to credits. |

Robot devil: “Wouldn’t it be nice if you had a pair of robot hands to replace them?”
Fry: “Sure would! Oh well, goodbye”
Fry: “Well, all right. You sure I probably won’t know him”
Robot devil: “Definitely probably not”
Fry: “Robot devil? I get your hands? Zam!”
Robot devil: “Looks like I wasted a bus trip”
Fry: “yes, you did”
Leela: “but it’s so beautiful”
Fry: “So is a peacock, but you don’t eat it until it’s cooked”
Leela: “Oh Fry, all this time you had this incredible gift and I never knew. I’ve been a fool. A fully justified prudent fool”
Robot devil: “Really, there is nothing you want?”
Bender: “Hmm, I forgot you could tempt me with things I want”
Bender: “I don’t remember ever fighting Godzilla. But that is so what I would of done”
Fry: “What did you do to my nails?”
Robot devil: “I cleaned them”
Zoidberg: “Your music’s bad and you should feel bad” |
| Analysis |
| This was quite an emo ending considering the show is animated. I almost had a tear in my eye the first time I watched it. I thought it was a really good ending. |

Final episode in series 4. Which was the last series. So basically final episode ever.
