Opens with a fairly dark scene as a bus heads for Cape Cod. Dawson has headphones on listening to music. He wakes up and sees the girl sat next to him (who will later turn out to be Eve). They have a talk which mirrors their future slightly.
Open title screens role. Opens with Joey working at the dock. She leaves to head off to school after talking to her boss. Elsewhere Jen and Jack are having breakfast watched over by Grams.
Dawson and Pacey are also having breakfast together, Dawson is telling him about the girl he met on the bus. Pacey questions Dawson about what he is doing between me and Joey. Dawson maintains that it is over between them but Pacey points out that nobody can resist Joey’s brown eyes.
Mitch enters and tells Dawson he is heading out for a coaching conference after being coach of the Capeside High Minute Men football team. He heads out leaving Dawson with the house to himself.
At school everyone heads into the junior assembly. The new principle, Principle Green introduces himself. Joey comes in late and sits at the back. Pacey points it out to Dawson and Principle Green catches him. He tells them he wants them all to act like Pacey as he is living like a kid and goes on to mention he will see Pacey in Saturday detention (probably a joke).
Jen decides to sign up for cheerleading trials despite Belinder’s objections. Dawson spots Joey and he asks Pacey to get him out of here. At Joey’s house she arrives him and moans to Bessie about her job. Bessie questions Joey about Dawson and Joey pretends that she talked it out with Dawson.
Elsewhere Dawson and Pacey are sitting in a strip club. The waitress takes drinks orders and Pacey suggests that this year Dawson should make it his aim to get laid. The waitress serves their drinks and then reveals herself to Dawson (it turns out she is Eve).
Next day Pacey and Dawson arrive home, Dawson having avoided Joey for another day. They go into Dawson’s house and find Eve sitting there. Pacey drags Dawson away and suggests he takes her for a ride in Mitch’s boat.
At cheerleader trials the girls get shot down. Jen arrives on the stage and grabs the microphone giving a big speech about how cheerleaders are such losers and everyone stands up and cheers (well except Belinda of course).
Joey is changing when her boss, Rob walks in on her. She is offended but he doesn’t seem to care. Elsewhere Dawson is driving the boat while Eve sits on the front. She gets close to Dawson and he slows the boat down. She comes round to the front and they start kissing, the boat hits the dock.
Joey comes rushing over to see if he is ok. Eve appears and Dawson introduces each other. Joey walks off. Rob works out how much it is going to cost to fix everything and quotes Dawson $3,000. He goes to sit with Eve on the dock. He blames her for the boat crash but she says she didn’t do anything. She walks off.
Jack catches up with Jen at school. She tells him that they made her head cheerleader. Joey talks over what has happened with Bessie. Pacey and Dawson search for money in the couch. Eve turns up with $400 from the girls at the club but Dawson turns the money down.
Pacey picks up some cool looking sunglasses and suggests an idea – throwing a party in his parentless house, $20 a head. That night people begin turning up on mass, with a huge line to get in, Pacey presiding over. Inside there is a rager going on with strippers dancing in random locations.
Dawson heads up to his room to get away from it all. He finds Joey sitting in there. They exchange some strangely meaningful words. Joey apologises and asks about Eve. Dawson says that there is nothing going on. Then Joey takes her top off (as you do) but Dawson stops her. They argue a bit and share an emotional moment; Dawson basically says he doesn’t want to through the relationship again, Joey leaves.
At the party, Pacey gives quick speech and introduces Dawson. He announces that they have over $3,000 and so Pacey says it is time to open this thing to the public. Eve tires to leave Dawson out but he goes to talk to Pacey outside. He asks Pacey to go see Joey as she needs somebody right now.
He then heads off to find Eve. She is in her boss’s boat which is sat next to the dock. Suddenly he hears a voice – it’s Mitch. Eve continues to try and tempt him but he decides not to. She heads off into the darkness in the boat. At the bottom of Joey’s dock, Pacey arrives in the row boat to find Joey sitting at the end.
He ties the boat up and climbs onto it. They do some emotional style relationship talking. Joey starts crying and Pacey hugs her. Fades to credits. |

Grams: “and how long have you two been married?”
Pacey: (on Dawson and Joey) “a whole summer has passed and the whole world is waiting to see what is going to happen”
Pacey: “What, that’s it? You’re just going to walk out? No fatherly warnings, no rules and regulations, no promises of impending doom should your sainted son her misbehave?”
Mitch: “Good idea. Keep Pacey out of the house.”
Waitress: “What can I get you gentlemen?”
Pacey: “Well I could love a couple of beers and my friend here will have a tall glass of milk”
Dawson: “It’s Capeside, we don’t exactly lock up”
Jen: “Cut to 25 years from now and Belinda McGovern wakes up feeling empty. Maybe it’s because her Dartmoor educated lawyer husband Tad has run off to Tijuana with the daughter’s room-mate from boarding school. Or maybe it’s because the twins, Timmy and Tommy call her by her first name and her live in house keeper mom. Or maybe it is Belinda’s daily 2 o’clock, 5 o’clock, 7 o’clock and 9:15 showdown with her bottle of Prozac. Her life has become a domestic wasteland, avoid this fate, don’t let yourself become another cookie cutter blonde size 4 rar-rar sis bam boon mindless soulless spineless wench. Screw these auditions, screw cheerleading and screw Belinda McGovern”
Jack: “You look like your dog just died”
Jen: “I don’t have a dog”
Jack: “Don’t tell me they made you a cheerleader?”
Jen: “Oh no”
Jack: “Thank god”
Jen: “They made he head cheerleader”
Pacey: “Never underestimate the kindness of stripper Dawson”
Pacey: “Teenage boys will come Dawson. They will arrive at your house for reasons they can’t even fathom. They’ll turn up in your drive way. Not really sure why they are doing it. They will arrive at your door, as innocent as children. Of course, we don’t mind if you come in and look around we’ll say. Only $20 per person. And they will pass over that money without even looking at it. For it is money they have and breasts they lack. Oh yes Dawson, teenage boys will come. They most defiantly will come”
Eve: “You know Dawson, I don’t know who is the bigger mystery – me, or you” |

Well I have to say the first time I saw this episode I really didn’t like it. Or the next one for that matter. They were terrible, I had a big list of reasons on my blog why they were so bad. Although it was slightly better watching it through again. And there is the comfort to know that the series gets better from episode 3 onwards.
My main problem is Eve really, I don’t like her and she isn’t even that attractive. But the dialog between the main characters was solid and the ending with Joey and Pacey sat on the dock – classic Dawson’s Creek shot, that is what the show is about. |

I don’t like Eve! She is so annoying.
On the Region 2 DVD the theme music is no longer Paula Cola – I don’t want to wait. I hope you people launched lawsuits when you originally found this out! |
