Dawson jokes about his parents, but Pacey tries to bring them back on the subject – it would seem it actually is his birthday although Dawson has no clue. Jen is sitting by the waterfront when Pacey turns up and moans about everyone forgetting his 16th birthday. Jen suggests it is because Dawson is infatuated with Joey.

Jen tells Pacey to have fun as it’s his birthday and he should cut loose. Jen is cleaning up during gym while Abby rubs it in while she sits there making comments at Jen. Jen shoots her down with her experiences in New York. Abby starts bonding with her and asks her to tell her everything.

At Joey’s house, she and Dawson moan about what happened today. Joey picks up her diary but drops it when Dawon pulls her onto him. They exchange words about Dawon not knowing everything about her and move onto kissing. The baby starts crying and Joey is drawn away, Dawson uses the time to pick up her diary.

He takes a peak inside and seems fixated on what he is reading. Joey emerges and he throws it down. Dawson says he is leaving and heads out. Joey is left wondering. At school, Pacey is putting posters up everywhere.

Dawson comes up and tells Pacey about him reading Joey’s journal and how she said she hated his horror movie. Pacey really doesn’t care though and tells Dawson that his life isn’t that interesting. He storms off. Andie catches up with Joey and introduces herself and says her brother could do with a job. Joey tells her to send him in.

Dawson catches up with Joey and asks what she thought of the movie. Joey says that it was amazing. Joey continues to deny it as Dawson continues to press. Joey realises what he did though and storms off. Meanwhile Mitch arrives on the dockside to see a friend. He says he is checking out the warehouse next door a possible restaurant location.

Mitch begins to talk about his real problems though while Gale is potting plants. Evelyn comes over to return a casserole dish and Gale drags her in for some advice. Mitch complains about his marriage while Evelyn talks to Gale about keeping it together. She suggests she renews her wedding vows.

Mitch is given the advice of an open marriage. Mitch has reservations but is clearly thinking about it. Andie finds a party leaflet on her car and speaks to a red-haired Pacey who says it is his party and she isn’t invited.

At Jen’s house she and Abby continue to bond over guys. Abby suggests they go to Pacey’s party and pulls out a bottle of champagne. At the restaurant Dawson tries to sort things out with Joey but she is still angry with him. Jack, Andie’s brother interrupts them. Joey tells him to start washing dishes.

Dawson continues to moan but Joey remains vigilant. Jack interrupts them again as Bessie wouldn’t let him in the kitchen. Dawson gives an emotional “I don’t know you at all” but Joey just lets him he never did. Elsewhere Pacey is stringing up lights when Andie turns up for the party.

Andie moans to him about new people and how she isn’t comfortable. She tells him to mingle but neither of them really want to. Andie points out one of the senior cheerleaders is taking him out but Pacey has reservations. The party seems to be really busy with plenty of people there though Pacey is wandering around alone.

Dawson turns up on the boat while Pacey watches over everything. At the party, Jen and Abby seem pretty drunk. They make a bet for Jen to kiss the next guy that comes along which is of course Dawson. She kisses him abut Dawson pushes her off.

She tries to get some contact but he pulls away. Mitch says he doesn’t want a divorce but they need to make some changes.

Mitch brings up the idea of having an open marriage. Music and waterfront shots kick in as the rain comes down. Dawson spots Joey who smiles and they head towards each other. They hug and look up at the sky as the rain continues to fall. Later on the dockside Dawson tells Joey about forgetting Pacey’s birthday.

He goes on to consider that he could be the world’s worst film maker but Joey says she wrote these things because she uses her diary as a release due to the feelings she has been hiding for him. Jen and Abby are throwing up over the side of the boat and Abby comments on Dawson and Joey’s possible sex life. Jen tells Abby that she wants Dawson back. Abby says she will get him back for her.

Pacey is sitting along on a boat when Andie turns up with a birthday present – it is a magic eight ball. Pacey asks if he will pass his drivers test and it says yes. Andie has a try but drops it in the water. They share a moment while elsewhere on the water front Dawson and Joey continue to kiss. Dawson says he has to go find Pacey.

Analysis
Hmm, there could have been a happier ending for Pacey. I originally thought Dawson wouldn’t forget he just has a surprise for Pacey. But then it goes to the next day (well it didn’t but it seemed like that at the time) – that sucks, it’s so cold and uncaring – this is suppose to be Dawson’s Creek, arguably the happiest place on earth.

Still I guess once the story explained itself (how much happens in one single day in that town?) I guess it turned out ok.
Notes
Jen looked so much better with long hair, it’s just terrible short! And what did Abby do to her hair? It’s happened to all the boys too, leave it long people.
