Jen finds Evelyn at the hospital and she says that grandpa is doing well. She says that it is due to the Lord ’s Prayer but Jen tries not to get dragged into the debate. At prison Dawson plans to leave Joey to talk with her father but Joey stops him. Joey is cold towards him. He (Mike) says he misses the family. Joey leaves but Mike asks Dawson to stay and talk to him about Joey.

Back at home Joey asks what Dawson said to her father. Dawson tells Joey she has to let her feelings out about him. Joey says she is going to France but Dawson tells her to stay. He is unable to give a reason though and Joey rows off. Jen turns up to see Evelyn who tells her, her grandpa has had another stroke and is intensive care.

Jen returns home and Evelyn can see she is upset. Dawson goes to Joey’s house but she isn’t there. He continues to look around. Jen gets a call from the hospital – her grandfather is dead. Jen goes to church to find Evelyn there alone.

Dawson comes home and finds Joey in the closet. They talk and Joey says she is going to France. Joey says she wants to tell the truth rather than dancing around it and starts to leave but Dawon pulls her back and starts kissing her. She kisses him back. Zooms to outside as they make out in the window then fades to credits.

Analysis
Notes
In this episode some of the Spielberg posters have been replaced by some others including I Know What you did Last Summer – a movie whose screenplay was written by creator Kevin Williamson.

The overhead shot in the motel mirrors the overhead shot from the opening scene of the pilot episode. Joey being in the closet also mirrors the pilot.
