Opens with a shot of a house, Fred is packing her stuff to leaving and moving to Los Angeles. Fred tells her mother she is going to try her hardest to study. Cuts a shot of her with a flame thrower as fighting demons.
Fred and Wesley begin kissing but are interrupted by Angel and Spike, Angel has a sword running through him. An ancient relic delivery arrives in the science lab; it looks strange, kind of like a coffin. Roll opening credits. Gunn seems to be in a good mood. Gunn tells Wesley he and Fred are getting back together and then tells him everyone knows about him and Fred.
Gunn says he knows where Lindsey is. Wesley comes in to tell Angel and finds him and Spike arguing. Later Fred comes in to examine the artefact. Fred touches the stone and it opens and Fred starts choking. But when she looks again it is closed. Meanwhile Angel calls Spike in to his office and says he thinks he should go.
Spike considers where he could go due to Angel’s expenses paid proposal. Meanwhile Lorne and Fred continue to astronauts vs. cavemen debate. Wesley walks up and offers to take her out. However next minute Fred coughs up blood and collapses. Later she wakes up in a hospital bed with everyone around.
Wesley comforts Fred and Angel realises they are an item. Spike points out everyone else already knew. Outside the gang debate how Fred has something bad. Angel tells everyone that her organs are cooking and soon will liquefy. Wesley begins to investigate the box set. .Spike suggests Lindsey could be behind it.
A man comes in asking Wesley for something for information for another case. Wesley shoots him in the leg. Gunn turns up to see the senior partners and finds himself. He beats himself up and refuses to help him.
Angel, Lorne and Spike turn up at Lindsey’s place and find Eve in bed. She denies knowledge and asks them if they know where Lindsey is. Lorne says she is going to sing now so he can read her. She does and Lorne says she is clean. Eve tells them that they might find something in the really old texts before the Wolfram and Heart achieve begins.
Wesley says that the artefact is from the Old Ones. Spike and Angel prepare to head of to the deeper well. Wesley goes to check on Fred and finds her gone. He finds her in the science lab insisting that she works on the case. She collapses and Wesley catches her and carries her back to bed.
On the jet Spike and Angel are heading to the UK. In the office it is suggested they freeze Fred. Elsewhere Fred begins to cry and Wesley comforts her. Wesley reads her a story while Angel and Spike find the deeper well – a tree is the entrance. Demons come charging out and they steal some swords to take the rest of them.
The freezing plan test fails. Back in the UK the keeper of the well finally emerges. Gunn begins roughing up Knox and he admits that Fred is being used for something and that Angel will let her die. Back in the well the keeper leads them through a passage; he and Angel know each other. He says the Old Ones are pure demons and he says that it disappeared. He leads them into a cavern with maybe millions of coffins.
The keeper tells them the demons power is huge and he still has followers – one of which is Knox who is filling Gunn in. He says the artefact got stuck at customs but the deal Gunn made to get his brain boost allowed him to get it in. Gunn knocks him out while Wesley gives Fred a shot; she is in a lot of pain.
Spike tells the Keeper that the demon’s essence is freed. The Keeper tells them they could bring the artefact back to here to draw the demon out of Fred but the demon would infect everyone between these locations. Fred seems to be losing it. Spike looks down the hole that leads through the Earth with all the demon coffins.
Fred seems to die in Wesley’s arms but her eyes then go weird and she stands again with bright blue eyes and hair. She seems to be possessed by a demon. |

| The episode title comes from Spikes line “there’s a hole in the world,” when he looks down the hole that contains all the demon coffins which goes right through the Earth. |
