A singing kid’s show is on the TV. Some sick kid watches it. One of them comes to the front of the screen and speaks to the kid telling him to touch it. He does and life is sucked out of him. His mum finds him on the floor. Roll opening titles.
Fred is brought in information she wanted. Around a dozen kids like Tommy are now in hospital looking like a big smiling puppet. Knox asks to talk to Fred about the sexual tension between them.
Nina the werewolf arrives for monthly stay. Angel walks her to her “suite” and she invites him out for breakfast but Angel turns her down and leaves. Later he talks to Wesley about it. Wesley tells Angel that Nina is coming on to him. Angel says he is worried about the curse but Wesley tells him the chances of perfect happiness hardly ever come along once let alone twice.
Wesley tells him he has to go for it and Angel wonders which one of them they are talking about here. Fred enters and interrupts them and tells them about the kids. Angel realises that all the kids collapse around 7 in the morning. He leaves and Fred makes an advance on Wesley but he doesn’t notice.
Angel talks to Lorne who tells them that all the kids that collapsed would be watching a kid’s show called Smile Time when they collapsed. Angel turns up at the studio it seems creepy and quiet (although name me an Angel set that doesn’t ;). At the back of the studio he finds a secret passage and a door that says “don’t.”
Angel heads though the door to find a man with a towel over his head. Above him a large round object opens up and a beam comes out at Angel. He is knocked through a pile of boxes and when he emerges he is a puppet. He phones Fred and presumably others as soon Fred, Wesley and Gunn arrive in his office to find the news.
Lorne arrives to see Angel too. He tells them what happened and tries to get them to take it more seriously but then realises Smile Time is on and hurries over to watch it. Fred gets the science lab to record the show with everything they’ve got. Angel is really annoyed and tells Gunn and Lorne to go meet with the guy that runs Smile Time.
Nina comes into the office and Angel dives behind the desk. He tells her to get out of here and she leaves. He then climbs onto his seat but Spike comes in. Angel then dives on him and starts beating on him, they burst into the corridor. Spike and Angel continue to fight in the elevator and man people find out about what has happened to Angel.
Lorne and Gunn confront Frampkin. Gunn tells him how they are going to bust him but Gunn starts to lose his knowledge. He tells them to get out of here as he will give them a fight (metaphorically). However when they leave he seems to be being operated by a puppet who has his hand in Frampkin’s back. He then makes a call and asks that everyone comes in here as they have a problem.
At the puppet meeting they discuss how Angel got turned into a puppet. Angel appears to have messed around with a Nest Egg. The leader type guy tells them that tomorrow they can drain every kid at the same time tomorrow. They seem pretty evil with all the plans of selling the kids energy onto hell and torturing Frampkin.
Back at Wolfram and Heart Angel turns up to see Nina. Angel starts this big speech but Nina turns into a werewolf and mauls him. He comes staggering out and Lorne finds him. Meanwhile Gunn goes to see the doctor about him losing his smartness implant. He asks him to put it back but he says the senior partners must have wanted him to lose it.
The doctor tells him he couldn’t afford it but they may be able to make a deal if Gunn could get through a bit of red tape for him. Wesley watches more Smile Time with Knox and Gunn. Knox leaves and Wesley and Fred talk about her in Knox. She tries to get Wesley to noise but Wesley notices that one of the puppets isn’t singing with the rest of them. Angel tries to stitch himself up when Fred and Wesley arrive.
They tell him the plan and Angel hugs Fred’s leg. Gunn comes in and says that it is not Frampkin, it is the puppets who are demons and have done this before. Frampkin made a deal with demons but didn’t read the small print. Angel grabs a sword and prepares to take out some puppets.
Kids everywhere begin watching Smile Time. The demon puppets begin their evil plan and begin draining the kids however Angel arrives on set with a sword and they begin fighting, the crew just stand and watch. Wesley and Fred arrive at the Nest Egg and begin a spell however a demon puppet grabs Wesley. He tells Fred to keep reading.
The puppet is going to kiss Wesley but Fred shoots it. Angel turns into a vampire puppet with the fangs and everything and kicks the puppets ass. Fred continues to read as the Nest Egg drains energy. She finally makes it crack and the kids are released from the energy drain.
Later Nina awakes to find all her clothes destroyed as well as puppet remains. She fears she has eaten him but Angel comes in. He tells her he will change back to normal in a few days and invites her to breakfast.
Fred enters and tells Wesley that the kids are recovering. Wesley tells her to get some rest but Fred tells him to wake up and realise she has feelings for her. Struggling to find the words though she decides to kiss him instead. They then start to make out while an annoying Smile Time song plays. Fades to credits then the real Angel music kicks in. |

Gunn: “You seen the last few seasons of Happy Days?”
Nina: “What do puppets eat?”
